/in our patients' words:  Abraham S. Anderson, MD

"Dr. Abraham Anderson is an excellent Doctor who has historically treated patients in our community [Tidewater, Virginia] that many turn away without thinking twice about it, including those who are uninsured and non-English speaking immigrant communities. He has also long-served the military community here as a civilian Doctor. Over the years, many harassed and directed violence towards him and his family due to his stance on abortion, and he weathered the storm, defending a woman's right to choose, whatever his own personal sentiment on the issue. Later in life, he did ultimately stop performing abortions, while also serving as a key witness in several court cases across the country documenting the violence (including death by violence) suffered by many doctors defending a woman's right to choose. Dr. Anderson is a kind and caring man, deeply committed to serving the women of our community, whatever their background, income level, race or ethnicity. Now that he has retired, he will be truly missed. Sadly, his contribution to our community has not been duly recognized."  (Anonymous)

"...[T]his miracle doctor helped me to successfully carry and deliver my first child after several misfortunate pregnancies...

"[Even though the wait was long at times, [Dr. Abraham Anderson] was worth it, because he was a very good [doctor]. All my pap smears and other treatments [were] painless and smooth sailing. He also cared about my well being, as we also discussed me being more on the healthy side. The staff here [was] wonderful as well. Thank You for everything [Dr. Anderson], and enjoy your Retirement!"  (Keda P.)

["Dr. Anderson tended to me during my first pregnancy and delivered my first born on Jan 6, 1977.  Even though my son's birth was 40+ years ago, I will always remember the excellent care and attention Dr. Anderson provided to me throughout my pregnancy and delivery.  At that time as a first-time soon-to-be-mother who did not know what to expect, Dr. Anderson's professionalism, calm demeanor, and assurance that everything would be fine is something I will always remember; he was awesome. He took such great care of so many women in the Tidewater area.  His legacy will live on forever...]"  (S. L.)

"[I became a patient of Dr. A as a scared pregnant teenager in 1972.  Dr. Anderson treated me as if I were his own child, with kindness and respect, and without judgement.  He took time to explain to me and mom about everything that was happening throughout the pregnancy.  He assured my mom that, although I was young, I should deliver the baby without problems, and even helped her get me into a maternity school so that I could graduate on time.  He delivered 2 more of my children over the next twenty years, and remained my doctor til he retired.  My family and I will always love Dr. A and appreciate his kindness.  God bless the family.]"  (Angela S.)

"He was a wonderful man that delivered all my children."  (Sherry M.)

"[You were a blessing to me and my family...You helped deliver 2 of my children, and if it wasn't for you making quick decisions with the help of the Lord, I don't know if my children would have been here...So, again, I must thank you for all your hard work, dedication and determination...May God continue to bless you and your family...]"  (Tia L.)

"For 10 years he was there for me through all 4 of my pregnancies. I don't know where to go at this point..."  (Ariel S.)

"Blessings and Angel Wings

I'm just now reading that Dr. Anderson passed away. Dave and I adored his help with all three of our pregnancies. Dr. Anderson saved my life by diagnosing my HELLP Syndrome...and delivered our first...a beautiful, healthy 8 lbs 12 oz baby girl. He watched over my second pregnancy and delivered our second child - a beautiful 9 lbs 6 oz baby boy. He was incredibly helpful during our third pregnancy, but our third decided to surprise us all by coming 2 days before our scheduled induction date (8 lbs 6 oz baby boy). Dr. Anderson still poked his head into my room the following morning during his morning rounds, smiled, laughed, and said, "Couldn't wait for me, eh?" He was a true blue incredible person and doctor whom Dave and I truly adored! His devotion to life and helping always will forever be in our hearts, and I'm certain he is surrounded by Angels in Heaven. Dave and I are forever thankful that he recognized and diagnosed HELLP Syndrome during my first pregnancy - he most likely saved my life and my daughter's life...Sincerely, Dave and Carol K. (along with hugs from our now almost adult kids - Kaitlyn, Joseph, and Prescott)."
